The Lord of the Rings
I am studying J.R.R. Tolkien. We are studying The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. I have discovered through this class how wonderful it would be to allow our students to choose more stories outside of the realm of the classics. I believe that we need to allow them to have more choices in their reading so that we will be able to teach them to love literature. I want to encourage each of you to take classes outside of our norm and encourage our students to read stories that are not exactly classics.

I agree with you. I think it is important to encourage students to read. The classics are good but there are other books out there that are just as good.
The real key is that the book be good literature not just pult tripe. If that requirement is met than why argue about "age"?
